Ansel Renner

At the Joint Research Centre, Ansel's main research involvement is the development and application of accounting methodology for the assessment of social-ecological systems as metaphysical wholes, with a view towards enhancing science for governance efforts. This research sees in particular the integration of insights from societal metabolism theory, biophysical economics, and relational biology. In terms of applied studies, Ansel has worked significantly on analysis of the primary industrial sector, in the context of Europe, most substantially, as well as in contexts of the Africa and the Americas. He holds degrees from the Autonomous University of Barcelona’s Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (PhD, MSc) and McGill University’s Department of Geography and School of Environment (BA&Sc).
