Teresa Armada Brás

Teresa joined the Forests and Bioeconomy Unit at the Joint Research Centre in October 2022, contributing her scientific expertise to the EU Observatory of Deforestation and Forest Degradation. In her current role, she investigates the impact of trade flows involving bio-based products, such as crop commodities and beef, on deforestation and forest degradation. With a background in environmental engineering and a Ph.D. in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies, Teresa specializes in using data-driven methods to analyse the European food availability, particularly in response to extreme events. Before her current position, Teresa worked as an Earth Observation (EO) researcher at the European Space Agency (ESA) in Italy and represented Portugal on the ESA EO Programme Committee. She also conducted postdoctoral research at the National Laboratory for Energy and Geology in Portugal and served as an evaluator expert for EU research and innovation funding programs.
