Joana Melo

Joana has joined the Joint Research Centre in November 2022 to support the LULUCF team in tracking land use carbon fluxes at global level. Her research focus is on understanding the differences between estimates from national Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories (including their aggregation at regional and global level) and other independent estimates, namely those provided by the satellite Earth Observation community. She is a forester by training, and has worked for more than 10 years in measuring forest carbon fluxes in the tropics for reporting to the UNFCCC. She has been following climate change negotiations since COP19 and participate in the technical assessments of REDD+ forest reference emission levels submitted to the UNFCCC.
