Giacomo Grassi

Giacomo Grassi is a Scientific Officer at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), where he leads the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) group. His work focuses on forests, climate change, and greenhouse gas inventories at the interface between science and policy. He provides scientific support for EU climate policies and is leading global efforts to reconcile differences in land-use emission estimates across datasets. He is a co-author of several IPCC reports, a member of the IPCC Task Force Bureau, and serves as an expert reviewer of national greenhouse gas inventories for the United Nations. He also regularly follows and contributes to the United Nations climate change conferences (COP). He is the recipient of the 2020 Bologna Award for Sustainability, the author of over 120 scientific publications, and is listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Stanford University/Elsevier).
