Julia Tandetzki
Julia is a forest economist and works as a project and scientific officer at the JRC, which she joined in February 2025. Her work focuses on biomass and forest sector market modelling, with particular emphasis on the supply, demand, and trade of forest-based products. She is one of the developers of the global forest sector model TiMBA (Timber market Model for policy-Based Analysis) and has extensive experience in large-scale economic and spatial model analyses. Her research examines the drivers of forest area development and their implications for science-based policy making, with a particular interest in linking theoretical concepts to data-driven approaches, including machine learning methods. Prior to joining the JRC, she worked at the Thünen Institute of Forestry in Hamburg, where she worked on forest product and market analyses and conducted bioeconomy- and policy-relevant scenario analyses. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Forest Science and Forest Ecology at the University of Göttingen and holds an M.Sc. in Economics.
