Valerio Avitabile

Valerio Avitabile is a forester with expertise on forest monitoring and assessment from local to global scale. He works at the JRC since 2016 on the analysis and integration of spatial data on forest resources in Europe. His research activities focus on the assessment of forest biomass and the integration of field and remote sensing data streams. Valerio holds a doctoral degree in Geography from the Friedrich-Schiller University (Jena, Germany) and spent 5 years as researcher in the Laboratory of Geoinformation and Remote Sensing at Wageningen University (The Netherlands), where he collaborated with the main institutes involved with forest monitoring from space, as the FAO, the ESA and the Wood Hole Research Centre. His skills include image processing, analysis of forest data and spatial modelling.
