Forest Pattern, Fragmentation and Connectivity PDF print email

This activity focus on the design and implementation of two headline indicators :

  • Landscape-level forest spatial pattern (indicator 4.7 of the FOREST EUROPE Internationnal Commitment)
  • Fragmentation and connectivity of ecosystem (indicator 13 of the European Environment Agency/SEBI2010 process and target 2 of  EU Biodiversity strategy 2020 on greeninfrastructure and ecosystem degradation)

Contributions to policy reports:

(1) EEA reports: (year 2010) 10 messages for 2010: forest ecosystems ; (year 2009) SEBI 2010 (Streamlining European 2010 Biodiversity Indicators) report "proposal for a first set of indicators to monitor progress in Europe ", and 1st Indicator-based assessment report with indicator fact-sheets (see Indicator number 13: Fragmentation and connectivity of ecosystems) ; (year 2008) report on European forests – ecosystem conditions and sustainable use  (Chapter 3.4 and Box 3.3, and Impact of fires on Natura2000 (Greece) in Chapter 4.4 and Box 4.3)      

(2) Forest Europe reports in 2011 and in 2007 from the Ministerial Process on the Protection of Forest in Europe : State of Europe's forest 2011 and State of Europe’s forests 2007 for Indicator 4.7

(3) Eurostat Pocket book 2009 : Forestry statistics

(4) UN Environmental Program : Data and poster  for the World Environmental Day 2011 on the forest theme (5th June 2011) and for the Green-Up initiative event on "re-connecting forests"on 11th October 2011.

 R & D applications : European forest pattern, European habitats pattern ( see FP7 research project EBONE ), fragmentation and connectivity, green infrastructure, African protected areas, tropical deforestation and degradation (REDD+), Agriculture (CAP reform), urban compactness.
